Single dad Mark Matthews is focused on making his daughter’s life the best he possibly can. Between work and taking care of his little girl, dating and any kind of love life is off the table. That is until he meets the quiet but sexy Daisy O’Rourke, who is as secretive as she is beautiful. Now it’s game on.
This was a pretty good read. Although it’s book 6 in the series, it reads very well as a standalone.
What I liked: I particularly enjoyed the sexy opening scene. I was immediately pulled into the story by witty dialogue and great chemistry between the main characters. Which leads me to my second favorite facet of the story – two strong main characters. The emotional elements of the story were also enjoyable. The pop culture references were a huge plus! Any man who names his daughter after a Harry Potter character and chooses Disney and Universal Studios as his top choice of places to visit … is a man after my own heart. I’m all about the theme parks!!
What didn’t work for me: The push-pull dynamic hit a nerve with me. Both main characters took a long time getting over their fears and ingrained prejudices. I get it, but I didn’t always enjoy it. I’m not big on repeated pushing and pulling away. If you make a choice, stick to your guns I say :D. I also had a teensy bit of trouble keeping up with all the other couples. This was my first read of the series and it worked out well as a standalone, but there were several mentions (I assume) of previous couples that didn’t click with me. Other than those small issues, this was a very enjoyable read.
Overall, I this was a very good read. I’d consider reading the five previous books in the series to catch up. I look forward to reading more from Diane Alberts and recommend this series.
I rate it:
