Title:  Seaside Whispers

Author:  Melissa Foster

Series:  Seaside Summers #8

Release Date: November 30, 2016

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Matt Lacroux decides to take a sabbatical from teaching at Princeton. His dream of becoming Dean is slipping away, however he’s just signed a major book deal. He decides to return home to Seaside for 3 months of downtime. In addition to writing, he plans to pursue his father’s employee, Mira. Mira is a single parent and not looking to complicate her family life. She’s definitely attracted to Matt, but refuses to believe they can have a relationship since he’s only in town temporarily. The two of them have been circling each other for over a year. It’s finally time to see where their attraction leads.

What I liked: Matt is sexy, patient, great with kids, and smart. The easy friendship between these character was enjoyable. For fans of the series who have watched the relationship develop, it will be wonderful to finally see them come together. Mira’s character is very true to life. Every thought and experience she has is centered around creating a stable and loving environment for her son. She’s a mother first and foremost. The story focuses on her freeing herself and becoming comfortable with going after what she wants.

“She wanted him for a night, for a week, for three months. She’d take whatever she could get and deal with the aftermath later. Tonight she wasn’t just a mother. She was a woman.”

As a busy mom, I can definitely relate! Most times practicality wins out, but sometimes you have to take care of yourself first and just feel. I enjoyed watching Mira finally let her walls down and allow Matt to care for her and Hagen.

What didn’t work for me: As much as I enjoyed Mira’s character and could relate from the mom perspective, it detracted from the romance. Mira’s son Hagen got a little too much airtime in this book. He was totally cute, but I read to escape real life. I can get those type of interruptions without picking up a book. Just my opinion. 😀
Also, the “secret savior” bit through me for a loop. I was like “What the Wah”?!

Overall, Seaside Whispers is relatable, real, sexy, sweet, and hopeful. It’s well-written and true to life, with a few minor exceptions. Fans of the series will not be disappointed. The book reads well as a stand-alone, but I’d suggest reading the entire series since previous couples appear throughout.
