Title: The Bad Guy
Author: Celia Aaron
Genre: Dark Romance
Release Date: May 21, 2017
My name is Sebastian Lindstrom, and I’m the villain of this story.
I’ve decided to lay myself bare. To tell the truth for once in my hollow life, no matter how dark it gets. And I can assure you, it will get so dark that you’ll find yourself feeling around the blackened corners of my mind, seeking a door handle that isn’t there.
Don’t mistake this for a confession. I neither seek forgiveness nor would I accept it. My sins are my own. They keep me company. Instead, this is the true tale of how I found her, how I stole her, and how I lost her.
She was a damsel, one who already had her white knight. But every fairy tale has a villain, someone waiting in the wings to rip it all down. A scoundrel who will set the world on fire if that means he gets what he wants. That’s me.
I’m the bad guy.
Wow! This was just what I needed at the moment. A hero who’s a little bit left of center and refuses to abide by the rules of society. Okay…. he’s a long way left of center, but totally my kind of psycho!! I freakin loved Sebastian.
Here’s the breakdown: Tall, dark, cold hearted, Sebastian Lindstrom finally finds something that makes his cold heart thaw. Camille, the beautiful girlfriend of his employee beckons to him on a level he’s experienced before. Acting on his impulses, he steals her away in an attempt to make her fall in love with him. The story that unfolds afterward twisted and entertaining.
Here’s what I loved: Sebastian – the character is intriguing and entertaining. Getting to know him was a definite treat. I’m always fascinated by characters who buck societal norms and break all the rules. Sebastian embodies this notion perfectly!
The introduction is one of the best I’ve read. It immediately grabbed my attention and led me down the rabbit hole like a willing captive…pun intended.
The storyline – The Bad Guy is on the surface, upfront and open, but slowly the plot takes a turn and the reader questions the main premise. Is Sebastian really the bad guy? Or is he a black knight?
The ending – I’m a sucker for epilogues. This one did not disappoint. It gave me everything I wanted.
The emotional aspect of the story, especially Sebastian’s relationship and dialogue with his father was a real treat. It was one of my favorite aspects of the story.
My only slight issue is that I expected the book to be much darker than it actually was. I haven’t decided if I misunderstood the blurb or read more into it, but I expected this book to be dark and that’s not how I’d label it. I’d classify it more as a read that focuses on mental illness or psychological romance read.
Regardless of that, I really enjoyed The Bad Guy. It left me craving more. Although this was my first read by Celia Aaron, it definitely won’t be my last. The writing is phenomenal and characters are well developed and rendered. This is a definite must read for fans of semi-dark, psychological romance.
